What Can a 2013 GMC Terrain Tow?

2013 GMC Terrain For Sale Michigan

We have had a few nice days in mid-Michigan so it finally feels like spring has arrived.  It only takes a few days like this to start thinking and planning a fun weekend up north.  But with the newer vehicles that are smaller and more fuel efficient what can handle your toys?

Since it’s introduction in 2010 the GMC Terrain has been a favorite of Michigan drivers because of it’s size, utility and fuel economy.  But can this mid-sized crossover handle the job of hauling your toys up north for a weekend of fun.

The 2013 GMC Terrain with 2.4L DOHC SIDI VVT I-4 engine can tow up to 1,500 lbs.  So what constitutes 1,500 lbs?  Like a lot of Michigan thrill seekers we like to go fast.  And there’s nothing more fun than zipping around Mackinaw Island on a Sea-Doo GTI Limited 155!  So will the base engine in a 2013 GMC Terrain tow this fine watercraft?  This Sea-Doo with their top of the line trailer weigh in at 1,346 lbs.  So you will have no problem towing this with the fuel efficient I-4 engine.

But what if fishing is your weekend passion.  Lets take a look at the hot new 2013 Ranger Z117.  This fine fishing boat is just over 17 feet long and lets say we pair it with a Evinrude 115HO ETEC.  So can this be hauled with the 2013 GMC Terrain to your next Michigan walleye tournament?  This boat with trailer weighs in at 2,995 lbs and the Evinrude motor is another 390 lbs.  With a total of 3,385 lbs this fine fishing boat combo is a little heavy for the Terrains I-4 engine.  So what is a Michigan fisherman to do?  Setup up to the 3.0L DOHC SIDI VVT V6 engine.  With conventional trailering of 3,500 lbs the V6 Terrain, in your choice of FWD or AWD, will handle your weekend trip to your favorite Michigan fishing location.
